“I was inspired by my family who has danced for Jedi Clan, Illadel, and Mindtricks here in the bay area, but took dance more seriously in 2016 where I first started training in multiple organizations in Berkeley (AFX, Mainstacks, TruElement, Raptors Camp). I then moved back in San Jose and was fortunate to dance alongside talented members in Commonality. I am currently now a captain of the dance team Pursuit of Passion.”

What’s poppin! I am Darius, but others call me DJ. I have been part of the OOS family for a while now and I am grateful that I am continuing to make new connects and friends!

OOS: How would you describe your dance style?

I tend to be very groovy, smooth, and feels good vibe. But I do like to experiment and explore more body movement so my pieces could be fast or may have different intentions.

OOS: What are your dance goals as a mentor?

My goal is to keep sharing with the community while making new connections along the way. I have a big passion on sharing local talent who may not have the same platform or opportunities as I do so I do my best to share my friends content or “share the spotlight” when I teach new pieces or classes.

OOS: What will your students learn or experience in your class?

You’ll be experiencing a challenging class, but a challenge where you can explore with choices and develop who you are as a dancer. My main goal is to give students opportunities to gain confidence in their choices because making decisions for yourself will not only help you grow in confidence but maintaining a character other can believe in.
