I started dancing because during first year of high school there was a hip hop club, which was something that really peaked my interest. I fell in love with dance ever since then and joined the dance department at the same school where I learned foundations mostly in contemporary and jazz. The more I trained in hip hop on the side, the more I started taking that seriously. I ended up joining and leaving some teams as my goals and purpose with dance changed. I ended up realizing through this the love I have for teaching, so I’ve taught lots of pop ups across the bay area and had bi-weekly slots at LGNDS Studios, and now I’m here! Teaching a bi-weekly slot at On One!
Hi! My name is Kiana and I’m currently living in Sacramento. I drive out to the bay area all the time to teach or take class just because I love the friends I’ve made here and the dance community too!
OOS: How would you describe your dance style?
Flow, patience, and control!
OOS: What are your dance goals as a mentor?
I love being able to provide a class where people can remember why they started dancing in the first place! Currently I am in the headspace of just wanting my classes to not be so serious. More stress-free and as fun as possible! I think when so many classes are serious and such a big push, it’s nice to have that one class where you don’t have to think and can just enjoy the time you have in that space.
OOS: What will your students learn or experience in your class?
How to give yourself grace and not stress about something that is supposed to be fun! I always like to make that clear in my classes, while also providing tips and suggestions if a push is what you’re needing. I try my best to cater to what people are looking for when they take my class.
